NYU Shanghai has a wealth of people who can provide academic support and advice:
Academic Advisors: Academic Advisors can provide practical information about the curriculum and the process of selecting and registering for courses. They can help students understand academic expectations and make informed decisions about academic goals. Advisors also help students navigate institutional policies and procedures and provide information about university services.

Faculty Mentors: Students can engage with faculty mentors in conversations about the curriculum and its intended impact on lifelong intellectual and professional pursuits. Faculty mentors can also engage in discussions about student interests, aspirations, and new perspectives on life. Faculty mentors for each major can be found on the webpage about each major.
Peer Mentors: Peer mentors are selected upper-level students who have been trained to connect new students with resources to help them transition into and be academically successful in their first semester at NYU Shanghai. All the freshmen can apply to be a peer mentee to be matched with one peer mentor based on academic and extracurricular interests.
ACADEMIC ADVISORS
Jinglin Guo received her master’s degree in Management and Information Systems from Western Oregon University in the US, and her bachelor’s degree in Accounting (CPA) from Jiangxi University of Finance and Economics in China. Before joining NYU Shanghai, Jinglin worked for six years in the Academic Advising and Learning Center at Western Oregon University as an international learning specialist and also taught an International First Year Experience class. Jinglin enjoys traveling, visiting museums and galleries, and exploring historic spots during her free time.
Maria Guo received her M.A. in Law and Education Policy from Columbia University and her B.A. in International Studies from the University of Washington. She has served as a peer mentor or student advisor in various capacities since her undergraduate years. She founded the Jackson School Mentor Program at the University of Washington, was a graduate assistant at Columbia University’s Center for Career Education, a consultant to Barnard College’s Office of Career Development, and a program assistant at Columbia Law School. She has previously lived in Amsterdam, Beijing, Brussels, London, New York, and Seattle. Maria enjoys writing and has published various articles in newspapers and magazines.
Lingyan (Ling) Hu

Lingyan Hu (Ling) received her bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from Nanjing University in 2013, and her master’s degree in Higher Education Administration from University of Pennsylvania in 2014. Her primary research interests concern diversity in American higher education, college students’ academic achievement, and international students’ adaptation in the U.S. Ling has gained extensive experience advising students in her role as an Academic Consultant in an education consulting company, as well as a Teaching and Residential Assistant at the University of Pennsylvania’s Fox Leadership Program. In addition, Ling was a Research Assistant at the Wharton School of Business. In 2015, she assisted the Penn’s International Students and Scholars Services in designing the inaugural Forerunner Leadership Program for Chinese international students at the Penn China Wharton Center.

Chenya Song obtained a master’s degree in International Educational Development with a concentration on International Policy and Planning from Columbia University’s Teachers College. She also holds a bachelor’s degree in Spanish language and literature from Shanghai International Studies University. During college Chenya studied abroad at the University of Alcala in Spain and spent her junior year at the University of Havana in Cuba, sponsored by the China Scholarship Council. Chenya is passionate about international education and transcultural studies. Before joining NYU Shanghai, she worked as an assistant at the Spanish Chamber of Commerce and interned at the United Nations Headquarters and the Office of Global Affairs, State University of New York. Chenya was born and raised in Shanghai. In her free time she enjoys traveling, dancing salsa, playing piano, and learning languages.
Minqing Wang

Minqing Wang earned her master’s degree in education from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, with focuses on linguistics, developmental psychology, and international education. Prior to joining NYU Shanghai, she served as a student counselor at Harvard University’s Summer School, providing academic and personal development counseling for first-year undergraduate and high school students. Minqing was also a Learning Resource Instructor at Hult International Business School in Boston, teaching business English as well as conducting one-on-one tutoring sessions and workshops on academic study strategies.

Jing Zhou completed her master’s degree in Developmental Psychology and Education from OISE-University of Toronto, and her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Vancouver Island University in Canada. During her studies in Canada, she gained valuable experiences from working with a diverse population of students as a peer helper. Prior to joining NYU Shanghai, Jing worked as an education consultant at a top British education consulting company in Shanghai. She was also involved in working with various school districts in Shanghai to promote students’ social and emotional wellbeing. During her free time, she likes to travel, read, and do yoga.
