Academic advising is an ongoing developmental dialogue between students and advisors to help students explore their pathways to academic and personal goals.

Advisors will:

  • Help you to think through your academic interests and options.
  • Help you to interpret university requirements and policies.
  • Identify and refer you to appropriate resources and services.
  • Communicate in a respectful manner.

Students are expected to:

  • Attend advising appointments on time.
  • Prepare for advising meetings in advance, doing research and preparing questions.
  • Actively participate. Listen carefully to advice, take notes, weigh options, and make your own thoughtful choices.
  • Be honest.
  • Check your NYU email every day.
  • Communicate in a respectful manner.

There are many exciting opportunities for intellectual growth and exploration as an NYU Shanghai student. With careful research and planning, you can take advantage of them to craft a rich foundation and four-year experience!
