About

Over half of low-income countries are under high levels of debt distress. International financial institutions, creditor and debtor states respond to the pressures of their domestic audiences, geopolitical interests, and bureaucratic imperatives as they navigate the life-cycle of both official and private debt.

The New York University Sovereign Debt Network (NYU SDN) is a community of faculty, graduate students, and undergraduate students at New York University with a shared interest in research on the domestic and international politics of sovereign debt.  It connects scholars from Politics, Economics, Law and other disciplines across the global network university, from the portal campuses of NYU New York, NYU Abu Dhabi, and NYU Shanghai, to the global sites including NYU London, NYU Paris, NYU Buenos Aires and NYU Accra, and more.

Areas of interest include debt transparency, international financial architecture, hegemonic influence over the international financial institutions, credit ratings and politics, climate finance, and the rise of new creditors, such as China and others.
