Reflection:

The overarching theme of this project is climate change. We aim to create a LaunchPad that not only plays music/ sound effects that mimics the sound of nature, but also create visualizations related to the music. Each button of the LaunchPad has a different function, including play, stop, pause, etc., and when a button is clicked the corresponding image would take over the screen. So far we have finished the outline of the LaunchPad, while working on importing music resources and designs of the visuals.

We have been mainly working on the p5.js editor, and were having difficulties to play sound through Glitch. However, the problem was resolved by the end of recitation and we decided to switch the collaboration platform. We plan to divide the work by different functions of the LaunchPad — one person would code the audios, while the other code the visuals.

So far, we have one button installed with music, and another button set as “Stop”. And we interviewed two users based on their experience of the first early test. The results are summarized as below:

User 1:

  • Without previous experience, it’s hard to figure out how to use this.
  • Would prefer to see the visualization of what sound is playing and the volume.

User 2:

  • There are a lot of buttons
  • Would prefer to have functions that could record audio
  • Also said that visuals would be helpful
