“Development aid effects are difficult to quantify and the metrics that have been employed so far suggest that there is much work left to be done in terms of alleviating poverty and ensuring the rights of the poor. “…although the failure of the Euro challenges the EU’s future, there is no reason to believe that the EU, even without the United Kingdom, will disappear anytime soon. In this article, I will briefly review the history of European integration and argue that existing theories of integration, while helpful, do not fully explain the phenomenon and that new intergovernmentalism remains a work in progress.”
