First World Problem

by Marvellous Maeze

It is here I stand resolute, purely inure
My flesh, silky onyx ink spilled from a quill
Existing within a fever dream not of my own design
Plunging towards a downfall, sprinting uphill
A nightmarish hell-scape of wronged rights

Is this cultural colloquialism
Or am I an anachronism
Sent from the future with a warning sign?
This pseudo intellectualism
Has proven to be entrapment, thus divine

Brought down from my state of bliss
Those pesky bioluminescent blues
So tell me who the real savage is
Declare it, he who emboldens falsity
To torture souls of differing hues

Is it those who threaten nuclear annihilation
Just to prove they are a superior first-world nation?
Perhaps savagery is pageantry for dunces
Segregate masses over fears of alien invasions
Isn’t it such fear that guarantees alienation?

The anti-social warrior
Still, the horizon will be
Fueled by passing ides of time
Must I wilt among the shallows?
Pacify my state of mind

Should I acquire your social construct disorder?
Disorderly conduct of a personality
I feel like every time you speak to me
It’s about something so petty, pitiful,
And pathetically plain

Done with dollars and diamonds and diets
What a shame, a sham I am
And what a shame, a sham you are
Creatures birthed of a chaos culture
Host the burdens that burden others

The millennial dilemma
Gen X, Gen Y, and Gen Z agree
The universal gender of strife
Doused in globalized green
Dripping red, blue, and white

I’m weary of walking on water
I yearn to run through the fire
Fall to slumber, stay woke and free
I will not falter nor beleaguer
I’m too broke to be the change I want to see

Two roads, dual decisions to make
The path of sycophant or benevolent
Which to undertake, which elixir to swill
To bloviate so grandiose
May shock and bring dismay to most

Is this being careless?
Should I even care this much?
Modern altruism proves evanescent
I can’t believe I feel so out of touch
I’m dealing with a first world problem
