Whitney Collado and Madeline Navarro’s Management Plans for Mass Fatalities in NYU Langone

New York City has experienced a number of mass casualties, from the severe effects of climate change to the terrorist attacks of 9/11. Due to its massive population, mass casualties are hard to manage especially in the fatality management department. Human remains become difficult to preserve and public messages are tough to communicate.

In these events, preventing the contamination of human remains is difficult and often requires local or federal assistance. The concerns with human remains became more complex with the rise of COVID-19, which has led to more than 700 deaths per day.

Whitney Collado and Madeline Navarro establish a series of protocols and procedures for a COVID-19 mass fatality event that focuses on the storage and transportation of the deceased.
