On June 24, 2021, a 12-story high residential building in Surfside, Miami Beach collapsed, killing 98 residents and leaving 58 missing. The building collapsed due to a combination of issues in the building’s construction and a lack of infrastructural maintenance and repair. Wanda Dikiy’s case study analyzes the collapse’s epidemiological impact and highlights the successes and inadequacies in the disaster’s management at the governmental level.
