UN parties have submitted their nationally determined contributions (NDC’s) ahead of the COP26, and the Emissions Gap Report supports the findings of the UNFCCC’s NDC Synthesis Report that the aggregated effect is insufficient on the global-scale . Countries accounting for 32% of global emissions have NDCs that will result in lower emissions by 2030 from their previously submitted NDCs, the rest of the countries either do not promise a change or have not submitted sufficient detail to compare.

From the G20 countries, six have pledged to enhance mitigation and reduce emissions by t 2.1 GtCO2e compared to previous NDCs, two will increase by 0.3 GtCO2e, three have informally pledged a reduction by 1.2 GtCO2e, and 3 have not yet submitted pledges. Collectively, the G20 are not on track to reach zero net emissions by 2030.

Conversely, 50 parties have pledged a long term plan to reach net zero by 2050 but there are large gaps and ambiguities in the plans.
