Rohan Jani discusses global warming in association with the use of non-renewable sources of energy. Electrical vehicles were believed to have a positive effect on reducing carbon emission; however, in reality, the carbon footprint of these vehicles are far greater than burning fossil fuels. In response, Jani advocates for a transition in the future to using solar energy with electric batteries.

Climate change increases the frequency and severity of natural disasters, which in turn complicates and worsens ongoing humanitarian crises around the globe. Tendo discusses climate change as a global trend and evaluates resources and potential action steps to be taken for ameliorating this ongoing public health disaster.

Seeing the long-term effects of climate change was difficult for individuals living in the 18th and 19th centuries, during the dawn of the first industrial revolution. However, those of us living in the 21st century have first-hand experience with the numerous and devastating effects of the centuries of carbon emissions and pollution from industrial developments. Lori Youmshajekian, Master’s student at NYU studying science, health and environmental reporting, worked with Frederica Fragapane, an independent information designer with projects in the Museum of Modern Art’s permanent collection, to visualize climate disasters’ cascading effects.

In this case study, Nicole Brandao inspects the demographical and epidemiological consequences of climate change in Guatemala. Brandao presents the association between the devastating effects of natural disasters in Latin America and trends in immigration to the United States, making a case for the importance of political leadership in promoting collective, societal efforts toward addressing health threats posed by natural disasters exacerbated by the changing climate.

The United Nations Climate Change Conference of 2023, also called COP28, was set up to be a historic acknowledgment of the dangers of climate change by most countries around the globe. Health would finally be at the forefront of discussions, a welcome emphasis after 30 years of discord. This conference proved to have some obvious benefits but also had several failings, particularly related to demanding swift actions against the devastating effects of a hotter planet.

A recent article on global warming uncovers the adverse effects of rising temperature and humidity. Although the older population is typically more susceptible to such severe conditions, new research finds that temperatures will soon exceed a threshold that even young people could struggle to withstand.

As global temperatures increase, tick-borne illnesses are surging in prevalence. Public health officials urge that people take extra precautions when outdoors to protect themselves. The United Kingdom has seen a one degree Celsius (1.8 degrees Fahrenheit) increase in temperature within the last 30 years, which has been identified as the cause for increasing tick lifespan.
