Unrelenting Wildfires Sweep Across the U.S.

Between March and April 2025, wildfires intensified across the southeastern United States, fueled by a convergence of drought, hurricane debris, and persistent winds. Since the start of the year, the National Interagency Fire Center documented 14,800 wildfires, which have burned over 1,100 square miles, a number that surpasses the 10-year average.

Greece Faces Flash Floods After Unprecedented Rainfall

Greece floods.

In just two hours, extreme storms caused flooding to take over the islands of Paros and Mykonos and many islands in Greece. Toxic Air Threatens Children’s Lives, UNICEF Warns

Children wearing protective masks.

A new UNICEF analysis estimates that more than 100 children below the age of five die every day in East Asia and the Pacific from air pollution, which it classifies as a major child survival threat. More than 325 million children are exposed to PM2.5 levels that are more than five times higher than the World Health Organization (WHO) recommendations, while 373 million are exposed to nitrogen dioxide (NO₂) at dangerous levels, leading to UNICEF classifying air pollution as a major threat to child survival.

Rohan Jani’s Précis on Global Warming

Burnt forest ground after a forest fire

Rohan Jani discusses global warming in association with the use of non-renewable sources of energy. Electrical vehicles were believed to have a positive effect on reducing carbon emission; however, in reality, the carbon footprint of these vehicles are far greater than burning fossil fuels. In response, Jani advocates for a transition in the future to using solar energy with electric batteries.

A Beautiful Visualization of Climate Change’s Disastrous Effects

Seeing the long-term effects of climate change was difficult for individuals living in the 18th and 19th centuries, during the dawn of the first industrial revolution. However, those of us living in the 21st century have first-hand experience with the numerous and devastating effects of the centuries of carbon emissions and pollution from industrial developments. Lori Youmshajekian, Master’s student at NYU studying science, health and environmental reporting, worked with Frederica Fragapane, an independent information designer with projects in the Museum of Modern Art’s permanent collection, to visualize climate disasters’ cascading effects.
