After a sweltering season of record breaking heat waves across the United States, thunderstorms are brewing on the Northeastern coastline. Flash flooding warnings have been issued, and states such as New York are already suffering casualties.
Heavy rains have already swept through several states, where they have flooded streams and rivers in Vermont. On Tuesday, water levels continue to rise in certain areas despite clearing rainclouds. Governor Phil Scott reports that Vermont’s capital, Montpelier, has surpassed the flooding seen during tropical storm Irene in 2011. These surges have prompted over 200 rescues and 100 evacuations. Several New York counties remain under flood watch, with Governor Kathy Hochul declaring a state of emergency. A number of roads were blocked or damaged. One death was reported.
