Residents on the coastline were advised not to return home to protect themselves from potentially deadly tsunami waves.
The series of earthquakes reached a peak magnitude of 7.6, resulting in multiple building collapses, fires, and numerous fatalities. The Japanese government has stated that they will continue to evaluate the situation and provide aid to individuals who were injured and suffered from property damage.
