From the Third Global Consultation on the Health of Refugees and Migrants in June 2023 emerged the Rabat Declaration, a plan of action that strengthens cooperation between Arab states to improve health of refugees and migrants.
Government representatives from United Nations Member States, UN agencies, and humanitarian organizations attended the meeting to discuss the future of universal health coverage and health emergency prevention for refugees and migrants. In promoting high standards of health for refugees, the declaration reflects a commitment to health and social protection at the national policy level.
The declaration will strengthen cross-border collaboration, enhance communication channels, and recognize professional health certifications through affordable financial services. While how the action plan plays out on the ground is yet to be seen, the Rabat Declaration is a strong political commitment to social justice and accessible health services.
