127 people are reported to be infected with Salmonella Oranienberg, with 18 hospitalizations and no deaths as of September 15. The source is not yet known so the CDC recommends the practice of food safety measures such as handwashing, washing and storing perishables correctly, and cooking food at a high enough temperature.
Vulnerable populations such as children under 5 years old, immunocompromised, and individuals older than 65 are prone to more severe illness.

Onions have been found to be the source of the recent Salmonella outbreak and the CDC have announced a recall of red, white and yellow onions from farms located in the State of Chihuahua, Mexico.
