Jamilah Maronde’s Case Study on Extreme Heat in Europe

Sun shining above city

Maronde’s case study examines some of the hottest recorded temperatures to date and the increase of heat-related deaths in Europe in the summer of 2022.

To manage the event, the Red Cross Red Crescent Climate Centre details methods cities can use urban planning to improve heat safety. It is also crucial for these cities to follow the goals outlined in the Paris Climate Agreement, which aims to reduce global temperature 1.5 degrees Celsius below pre-industrial levels. To combat the current health crisis, people are encouraged to check up on others and keep air-conditioned schools open to the public.
