The Emergency Management Institute (EMI) offers self-paced courses designed for people who have emergency management responsibilities and the general public. All are offered free-of-charge to those who qualify for enrollment.

Red Cross – Greater New York Region

“Headquartered in New York City, the Greater New York Region serves more than 12 million people in New York City; Long Island; Rockland, and Westchester counties; and Greenwich, Conn. We respond to approximately seven emergencies and disasters a day across the region—home fires, floods, building collapses—and more, providing shelter, food, clothing and emotional support at no cost to those in need. New York Disaster Interfaith Services (NYDIS)

NYDIS is a nonprofit organization comprising faith-based service providers and charitable organizations who work to ensure that communities are prepared for disasters and to support disaster response and recovery in New York City. Among its offerings is an online resource collection with tip sheets and materials to support planning and recovery.

State of New Jersey Department of Health

The Department of Health received various Civil Service Commission decisions approving interim appointments for Unclassified Service positions within the Department of Health. The interim appointments under various grants  have been established and may remain funded through December 30, 2027.

International Committee of The Red Cross

Pan American Health Organization Internship and Practicum Program

“The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) recognizes the importance of a new generation of public health leaders who understand global health issues, and the role international organizations play in achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and addressing critical health issues.

In this regard, the PAHO Internship and Practicum Program (IPP) aims to train young and energetic individuals entering the field of public health who are interested in providing services to PAHO on a voluntary basis. PAHO interns/volunteers are matched with appropriate technical or administrative programs based on their personal interests and skills. Placement opportunities include at PAHO Headquarters in Washington DC, PAHO Country Offices, as well as the Pan American Centers in North and South America or in the Caribbean region.”

Fellowships

NYU Langone: Fellowship and Internships

This opportunity is designed to expose undergraduate and graduate students to the field of emergency management in a hospital setting. The primary goal is to allow interns to gain knowledge and experience in the field of emergency management. Throughout the internship, interns take a lead role in mobilizing and training hospital staff as emergency volunteers. Interns will also participate in meetings, drills, and exercises under the supervision of Emergency Management staff. Interns may have the opportunity to observe functions of other departments at NYU Langone Health during the course of their internship.

CDC: Public Health Emergency Management Fellowship

CDC’s Public Health Emergency Management (PHEM) Fellowship is conducted twice a year at CDC in Atlanta, Georgia. The fellowship builds PHEM capacity among members of the international public health community through standardized training, mentorship, and technical assistance. It targets mid-career professionals who work in public health preparedness and response in countries who have signed onto International Health Regulations.
