The NYU GPH Journal of Public Health Disasters is a student-led journal driven by the latest research in public health disaster preparedness and management. Launched in 2021, the journal serves as a platform to share students’ exemplary work products, present current research in the discipline, and communicate the most recent news related to public health disasters.

By capturing and sharing the perspective of our students, the journal aims to generate awareness and interest in this growing field of study. We hope to create a space for public health disaster discussions and education while supporting our students’ academic and professional growth. Ultimately, we seek to promote evidence-based approaches to disaster management, as well as to upkeep the field’s standard of research.

Student Publications

Exemplary student works selected for publication from the Global Health Disaster Preparedness & Response course. Publications include case studies, disaster management plans, précis, and Threat and Hazard Identification and Risk Assessments (THIRA).

News in the Field

Updates on the latest news in public health disasters and disaster management, such as disease outbreaks, natural disasters, health emergencies, and reviews of ongoing global crises. Additionally, we publish summaries of research developments in the field, as well as updates on best practices in disaster preparedness and management.

Spotlight Interviews

Each year, the Journal of Public Health Disasters invites current MPH students and GPH faculty to share their experience and personal journey in public health and public health disaster management through a series of interviews. Through these featured interviews, we hope to share their exciting journeys and insights with the wider NYU community of students and researchers.
