Cindy Martinez paved her way into the public health field after her graphics design job took an unexpected turn after the impacts of the economic recession in 2009. After dedicating 18 years to the marketing field she discovered her desire to help people.
She spent time volunteering at nurse staffing offices in hospitals, taking nursing prerequisite courses in college, and organizing events to spread colon cancer awareness. This work brought Cindy recognition from one of her college professors who advised her to look into the field of public health. Her volunteering experience involved planning a health exhibit in Union Square Park in conjunction with Mount Sinai Medical Center, Digestive Diseases Department, The Colon Cancer Foundation, The Union Square Partnership, and The New York Parks Department.
She enrolled in the NYU Graduate Certificate Online Program to test her assumptions, while simultaneously working as a Patient Service Representative at the NYU College of Dentistry and is now working towards a Master in Public Health.
