The CDC posted a nationwide food safety alert on a contaminated batch of baby spinach with a E.coli O157:H7, specifically Josie’s Organic Baby Spinach with best by date of 23 October 2021. So far, there have been 10 reported illnesses and 2 hospitalizations in 7 states.

On Friday night, Nov 5, 2021, tragedy hit when a crowd of 50,000 people surged forward in an outdoor concert called Astroworld Festival. It caused at least 8 people dead, many others injured with youngest being just 10 years old.

Despite a two year-long drought, two feet of rain from atmospheric rivers broke daily rainfall records and put out the Dixie and Caldor Fires. Although this caused momentary major power outages and flash floods, the risks associated with the fires are diminished considerably, giving the incident teams a well-deserved break.

127 people are reported to be infected with Salmonella Oranienberg, with 18 hospitalizations and no deaths as of September 15. The source is not yet known so the CDC recommends the practice of food safety measures such as handwashing, washing and storing perishables correctly, and cooking food at a high enough temperature.
