Candida auras (C. auris) is a drug-resistant fungus with a dangerously high mortality rate. Most C. auris cases are resistant to one antifungal drug at minimum. However, chronic cases include strains which are resistant to all three antifungal drugs used to treat the fungus. Cases of C. auris typically arise in healthcare facilities, due to prolonged isolation periods following exposure.

Wanda Dikiy’s Case Study on the 2021 Surfside Building Collapse

On June 24, 2021, a 12-story high residential building in Surfside, Miami Beach collapsed, killing 98 residents and leaving 58 missing. The building collapsed due to a combination of issues in the building’s construction and a lack of infrastructural maintenance and repair. Jose Flores Hernandez’s Case Study on the 2022 Brooklyn Subway Shooting

On April 22, 2022, 64-year-old Frank James opened fire on an operating subway in Brooklyn. Thankfully, no individual was killed in the shooting; however, at least 23 individuals were injured, and many more suffer from the psychological trauma of this attack. Jose Flores Hernandez’s case study details the course of this incident and urges the implementation of better gun surveillance systems in the United States.
