The Yangtze River Delta (YRD) is a flood-prone region spanning Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui provinces, and Shanghai City.  The YRD region’s geographical landscape causes it to hold large amounts of water every June to July during the monsoon season and the frequent typhoons trigger flooding.

Jordan is at a greater risk for terrorist attacks due to its moderate political position, its geographic location, and its tourism industry. Neighboring countries have civil wars and injustices that produce radicalized groups, and recent attacks by Al-Qaeda in Amman have left 60 people dead and over 100 injured.

Mumbai is the capital of the state of Maharashtra, India and it is the second-most populous city after Delhi.  However, it is plagued by yearly  Monsoons that result in heavy flooding from June to September.  During the season, more than 2250 mm of total rainfall is accumulated on average, which can cause drownings, loss of ecosystems, infrastructure damage, and economic losses.  There is a serious need for a disaster plan for the city.

Florida is prone to hurricanes and was hit by major hurricanes (category 3-5) twenty-six times in the last century, with 4 occurring in Miami-Dade county making it the most affected county on the US coastline. Climate change has affected the Colorado River by reducing the river’s flow by 20%  compared to measurements taken in the early 1900s due to extreme heat, dry soil and decreased vegetation, increased water evaporation, and reduced rainfall and snowpack. As a result, an emergency water shortage was declared in an attempt to reduce water usage in surrounding farms, which use 70% of the water, and rapidly growing cities.

In the state of New South Wales (NSW) in Australia, bushfires become worse in recent years, more frequently due to extreme weather fueled by climate change, and are an expensive problem accounting for 10% of the cost of all major disasters in Australia.  Since NSW is the most populated state and its environment is diverse, there is an urgent need to implement high-quality fire preparation, management, and response plans to protect the parks, reserves, and citizens.
