Shelagh Herzog Presents Bhopal Gas Disaster: An Enduring Tragedy

The Bhopal Gas Disaster is considered one of the world’s worst industrial incidents. In December of 1984, a defective tank from the U.S.-owned Union Carbide Company began leaking 42 tons of methyl isocyanate (MIC) gas into its surrounding environment. Hundreds of thousands of individuals were exposed to high concentrations of MIC gas due to the chemical plant’s storage tanks’ poorly-designed safety systems.

Sophia Zuniga’s Case Study on 2018 Parkland Shooting

On Feb 14, 2018, 19-year-old Nikolas Cruz opened fire inside Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, FL, killing 17 and wounding 17 people. According to Sophia Zuniga’s case study, the gunman purchased the gun a year ago before the shooting. He was expelled from the school five months ago. Within 7 minutes, he entered and exited the school while police entered after he left.

Corrinne Joseph Tendo’s Case Study on the 2021 Extreme Heat Events in British Columbia, Canada

From June 25th to July 1st, 2021, a heat dome struck the province of British Columbia, Canada, causing record-high temperatures over consecutive days. The temperature peaked on June 29th, reaching a high of 49.6 Celcius. Corrinne Joseph Tendo discusses the epidemiological outcomes of this event in her case study.
