Cat Hartwell

Cat Hartwell is a Global Health MPH student with an interest in the intersection of public health and climate change.  She has extensive experience in the film industry as a producer of documentaries and non-fiction television.  In her work, she has immersed herself in various topics relating to public health, such as harm reduction in the opioid crisis, reproductive rights, climate change,  just to name a few.

When she was filming a documentary in Johannesburg on girls’ education and menstrual hygiene management, she was deeply touched by the lives of two teenage girls’ who inspired her to get more involved in empowering individuals through public health. A few months later, she applied to the MPH program at the NYU School of Global Public Health.

Although she has to remain an impartial observer when she is filming,  she feels that she wants to become more directly involved in the subjects that she was covering.
