Despite a two year-long drought, two feet of rain from atmospheric rivers broke daily rainfall records and put out the Dixie and Caldor Fires. Although this caused momentary major power outages and flash floods, the risks associated with the fires are diminished considerably, giving the incident teams a well-deserved break.

CDC reports that 2 doses of an mRNA vaccine are five times better at providing immunity than a previous infection of SAR-CoV2
This report builds on the fact that people who are previously infected will develop immunity towards COVID-19. By comparing hospitalization between fully vaccinated adults with no documentation of previous infection and unvaccinated adults with a history of a previous infection, the multistate analysis reports differing results to previous studies published on the subject.

The UNEP Emissions Gap Report 2021 confirms that the updated NDC’s are insufficient to achieve the temperature goals of the Paris Agreement
UN parties have submitted their nationally determined contributions (NDC’s) ahead of the COP26, and the Emissions Gap Report supports the findings of the UNFCCC’s NDC Synthesis Report that the aggregated effect is insufficient on the global-scale . Countries accounting for 32% of global emissions have NDCs that will result in lower emissions by 2030 from their previously submitted NDCs, the rest of the countries either do not promise a change or have not submitted sufficient detail to compare.
From the G20 countries, six have pledged to enhance mitigation and reduce emissions by t 2.1 GtCO2e compared to previous NDCs, two will increase by 0.3 GtCO2e, three have informally pledged a reduction by 1.2 GtCO2e, and 3 have not yet submitted pledges. Collectively, the G20 are not on track to reach zero net emissions by 2030.
Conversely, 50 parties have pledged a long term plan to reach net zero by 2050 but there are large gaps and ambiguities in the plans.
