Cat Hartwell & Rob Torino’s Hurricane Evacuation of a Palm Beach Skilled Nursing Facility During the Pandemic

Severe storms, floods, and hurricanes are very common in coastal areas such as South Florida. Evacuation of long-term care facilities is further complicated by the pandemic; shelters are required to house a large number of individuals during the event of a disaster but the risk of overcrowding and the difficulty of implementing adequate social distancing can promote the spread of SARS-CoV-2.

Students Cat Hartwell and Rob Torino designed an emergency plan that caters to emergency preparedness, evacuation, and response to hurricanes during the COVID-19 pandemic at skilled nursing facilities in Palm Beach County.
