A volcano in East Java, Indonesia erupted on Saturday with 5 people reported dead and 9 missing. Out of the 56 people wounded, 35 are in serious condition. The damage is extensive with hundreds of houses completely destroyed and 33 schools affected.
Officials have announced that the situation is highly dangerous as the clouds of ash and volcanic gases have yet to dissipate and have evacuated the Curah Kobokan village downwind, and requested the evacuation of all villages within a 6 mile radius from the volcano. The roads leading to other villages have been destroyed, preventing emergency service access on ground and requiring the aid of military human resources and equipment to step in.
