Antimicrobial resistance in the farming industry – the next disaster

An article published by the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine explains the dire need to regulate the responsible use of antibiotics within animal farming and the agricultural industry.

Dr. Gwen Wright highlights how best practices are not utilized in low and middle income countries due to poor access to veterinary care and an unregulated pharmaceutical market. This may lead to the emergence of resistant zoonotic diseases and the next pandemic if a multi-disciplinary approach to combat misuse of antibiotics is not adopted.
