The CDC posted a nationwide food safety alert on a contaminated batch of baby spinach with a E.coli O157:H7, specifically Josie’s Organic Baby Spinach with best by date of 23 October 2021. So far, there have been 10 reported illnesses and 2 hospitalizations in 7 states.
This strain produces a powerful Shiga-toxin which presents as bloody diarrhea, nausea and vomiting 3 to 4 days after consumption of the contaminated food. Infection with this strain may develop into a type of kidney failure called hemolytic uremic syndrome. If you find that you have purchased this product, throw away the spinach and clean any surface that have come in contact with the product.
