SYDNEY SKYBETTER

Choreorobotics 0101

This movement workshop is derived from the first studio class of Sydney Skybetter’s course at Brown University titled, Choreorobotics 0101. The class introduces participants to the semantic and choreographic challenges of teaching computational systems how to dance. Participants will be asked to move through space and in relation to one another, in accordance with improvisational prompts that challenge conventional predictive models. This workshop is open to all movers and favors spoken feminist consent frameworks that will be discussed as the class progresses. Because computational embodiments do not easily partner with others and have no particular regard for safety or consent, there will be no robots in this workshop.

BRANDON POWERS

Embodiment Design An Intro to Designing XR Experiences Like a Choreographer

The most powerful XR experiences are embodied experiences, taking account of the visitor’s body and how it interacts with physical space. Designing for the body is often overlooked, that’s where Embodiment Design, choreographer Brandon Powers’ unique design practice blending dance techniques (such as Laban Movement Analysis) and spatial design. Through a mix of presentation and collaborative play, this workshop invites participants to learn about Embodiment Design, and discover how their knowledge as dancers already primes them to create impactful immersive experiences.

KATHERINE HELEN FISHER AND ARMON NAEINI

Choreographing the Algorithmic Body

Katherine Helen Fisher will lead an embodied workshop exploring real-time interactive choreographic interfaces—where movement and machine intelligence intersect. This session invites participants to engage in performance experiments that fuse motion capture, AI-driven movement generation, and responsive digital environments. Through improvisation and structured exercises, we will investigate how bodies become data and how choreography can serve as both a lens and a tool for interrogating emerging technologies. By activating interactive systems that translate motion into digital feedback loops, the workshop will challenge participants to consider the shifting boundaries between physical and virtual embodiment, prompting discussions on agency, authorship, and the ethics of AI in performance. This immersive exploration is designed for dancers, technologists, and researchers eager to experience the kinesthetic dimensions of AI firsthand.

BRIAN BROOKS

Viewpoint: Live-stream yourself in 3D with a unique Augmented Reality Mobile Studio

This hands-on workshop engages participants directly with interactive technologies in Augmented Reality and body tracking. Choreographer Brian Brooks shares his Viewpoint Project, which uses groundbreaking, patented, telepresence technology and software to stream 3D video in real-time. A person’s image can be seen simultaneously through a mobile device, magically overlaying them into the viewer’s surroundings. Participants will experiment with this equipment, considering the human position and instinct in shaping interactive experiences in real-time.

Dance Prompts: an open source community developed AI choreographer biased for inclusive and accessible movement

My new AI choreographer project launched its phase one on October 15th, 2023 with ‘dance prompts’ a participatory artificial intelligence generative dance mint to develop an AI choreographer biased towards inclusive and accessible movement. To participate, you can mint on EmProps Open Market Beta an AI generative art market on Tezos & Ethereum for .1 tez (less than a penny). We have 217 minted and 783 to go. We need 1000 mints to work with for our dance jam, phase two of the AI choreographer project happening early 2024. If you’d like to participate in the jam let me know. If you need help setting up a wallet just ping me. To learn more about the project you can read this article on fx(hash)
