Learning Outcomes:

By the end of this course, students will be able to 

(1)    identify basic techniques of computer-assisted analysis of texts;
(2)    appreciate how a script, or an algorithm, is a human made list of stepwise instructions;
(3)    compare and contrast human and non-human forms of reading;
(4)    demonstrate some of the ways that they might be “on the way to computational thinking” (Berry/Fagerjord);
(5)    appreciate the different scales at which computer-assisted reading allows them to analyze;
(6)    learn basic ways to integrate critically the visual into their own analytical writing;
(7)    practice effective communication skills in a written research blog in addition to oral presentation format;
(8)    engage in debates about possible futures of reading.
