Dhruv Mehrotra


Dhruv is an Assistant Research Scientist at RiskEcon® Lab, working with Saycel, developing low cost network infrastructure for rural regions. He is deeply invested in using technology to promote transparency and social justice, and is currently also a resident at Eyebeam and a researcher at the ACLU’s Speech Privacy and Technology Project. He recently received Honorable Mention in the 2017 Mozilla WINS Challenge for his Othernet Relief Ecosystem proposal, which is an extension of his Othernet installations in Brooklyn, NY. He presented some of his research at the inaugural InsurTech Science and Engineering Expo co-hosted by Numerati Partners and RiskEcon Lab in 2018.

Dhruv earned a Masters degree from NYU’s Interactive Telecommunications Program (ITP), and a B.A. in Political Science and Government, also from NYU. He has also served as a teaching assistant for NYU ITP’s Towers of Power class, which combines hands-on skills in open source communications and sensor tools with business strategies for emerging markets.This Saycel R&D project is part of the RiskEcon® Lab CEcADA external partnership initiative.
