AKSHAY ANANTAPADMANABHAN

Akshay Anantapadmanabhan is a leading young Carnatic percussionist striving to create a global cultural impact through music performance and music technology. Akshay has been performing in Carnatic concerts, accompanying several popular artists. He has received certification from the Indian government as a performing aritst and is a graded artist of All India Radio. Akshay has performed solo as well as collaborative performances in various prestigious venues in the United States, Canada, Spain, Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, Portugal, Singapore, Abu Dhabi and India. He has collaborated with Hindustani, Latin jazz, rock and Brazilian musicians in unique showcases of South Indian percussion using mridangam, kanjira and konnokol. In April 2012, he gave a TEDx talk: ‘The Language Beyond Rhythm’ using the mridangam as the medium to communicate the parallel between language and percussion. Along with his musicianship, he has initiated several academic research collaborations in the field of music technology. He has two international publications on automated stroke transcription of the mridangam.
