Seeking to bridge the gap between theory and practice, this workshop provides a forum for an in-depth, cross-disciplinary review of expansive approaches to music analysis and modeling. Through scholarly investigation, including an analysis of music and dance performances, musical rhythm is considered from four interlocking standpoints: music theory, musicology, and ethnomusicology; music modeling and computational approaches to music; music perception and cognition; and neuroscience.
The project Cross-disciplinary and Multicultural Perspectives on Musical Rhythm and Improvisation was borne out of the Rhythm Workshop Series. You can read more about this project at the Music and Sound Cultures website.
