1.What does Ritchin mean with the “fluidity of the digital”? Give an example of digital imaging/digital photography that exemplifies this.
From my perspective, the “fluidity of the digital” means the change in photographing accompanies with advanced technology. Also, it’s a trend that technology will make it easier for users to clone, modify, and manipulate photos. Although it has many advantages, as Ritchin wrote in his article that “The influence of the World Wide Web in which any private event can be made public in minutes( or even sooner) provokes a revulsion for the pervasiveness of imagery” (8).
As in the past, it was very hard for the people to capture the dynamic things by the cameras. Nowadays, people can use cameras with dynamic photography technology to capture dynamic things easily.
2.Reflect on the extent to which photography is capable of capturing reality; and compare it to other media (technology) (e.g. text, video, virtual reality, books).
To what extent photography is capable of capturing reality depends on the people who take the photos. In general, photography can be very capable of capturing static reality. Compared with the video, the video can reflect a long-termed reality and can also capture the dynamic reality better. The photos and videos made by photographers and video producers reflect their unique thoughts about reality. So the ideologies behind them are different.
