Diptych Blog Post

My Concept

I want to use my diptych to show the warmth and impact brought by the interweaving of light and shadow and the change of tones. In addition, I want to give the audience some questions that they might never think about. We all know that light can illuminate the clay pot and give it luster. What about clay pots? Is it just as a part to be illuminated? What if the clay pots can also emit colorful lights? This is a concept I want to express in my work. In the world of light and shadow, shadow is a vassal of light, and light is also a vassal of shadow. These two combined with each other.

Process

Part I

In part one, I took a real photo. In order to better display the light, shadow and tonal effects, I adjusted the camera’s aperture and white balance to create a clear and cool atmosphere, and also showed a black shadow effect on the bottle.

Usually, cool colors can make people feel a kind of loneliness. That’s why I didn’t choose to combine different objects in this photo but used one object. Because I want to highlight this feeling of loneliness.

Part 2

In part two, I used photoshop to create my work. I used the pen tool to copy the bottle body as the tube part of the top spotlight in the second part. I adjusted the color range of the lamp to adjust and create different color spotlights.

At the same time, I used the polygonal lasso tool to create a special selection to create a light effect. At the same time, I adjusted the color of the light to match the color of the spotlight.

In the halo area at the bottom, I cropped the actual photos taken in the last few lessons and blended them to the edges. Because I think beautiful scenery can make people feel warm and comfortable. At the same time, the addition of these landscape pictures can also make the whole picture more integrated.

In conclusion, I want this part to have the light, shadow and artistic effects of a movie. It is worth noting that I deliberately did not add the middle light so that the middle spotlight does not shine.

In fact, this is the hint I want to make. I want to hint that the audience’s objects of light and shadow have changed.

Conclusion

In conclusion, in the left part of the diptych, I used cool colors, and in the right part, I used relatively warm colors so that their colors can be contrasted. Make the picture on the right create more warmth.

Also, I want to show the different states of the clay bottle. On the left, this clay pot is the illuminated part, and on the right, the clay pot serves as the main body for illuminating other scenery. This is what I want to introduce. Light and shadow overlap. I want to introduce this topic in an abstract but concrete way. This is why I chose to stitch the above two pictures together.
