1.1 PROJECT TITLE
Nature Band
1.2 PROJECT STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
Living in modern city with our headphones on, many times we show no attention to the sound of nature. So, I want to have a band whose members are trees, clouds and rocks. When the player interacts with each figure, it will generate certain sounds or music and shine in response. The nature band aims at leading players to see, feel and listen the beauty of nature, and develop people’s awareness to focus more on the interaction our humans are generating with nature in reality.
2.1 PROJECT TITLE
Pet City
2.2 PROJECT STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
According to National Land Subsidence Controlling Plan released by Chinese government, cities in more than 20 provinces are sinking due to global warming. Expanding cities keep running to generate efficiency and benefit, but they are also producing pollution: light pollution, noise pollution, warming climate. And they’re causing serious problems. So, Pet City will be a computer program that can visualize this kind of city diseases. Noisy sounds, shining light and high temperature will make it unhappy. It will directly show the audience how are we affecting the city and can also serve as an environment detector.
3.1 PROJECT TITLE
Sweet Dreams Weighs Down the Milky Way
3.2 PROJECT STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
The title is a line drawn from a Chines poem of Tang Dynasty. And its full translation is:
The west wind blew Dong Ting’s youthful face away;
Overnight, the Xiang traveller’s hair turned grey.
Drunk, he knows not the sky is afloat in the water;
A boat laden with sweet dreams weighs down the Milky Way. (Translatted by Zhongjian He)
It is one of my favorite Chinese poem. And in fact, moon, stars and nights in boats are common figures in Chinese old poems. Many famous Chinese poems, like First Visit to the Red Cliff(赤壁赋)and A Moonlit Night on the Spring River(春江花月夜), use such figures to convey poets‘ deep thoughts, such as a sense of freedom or views on lifetimes of human being. So I want to make an interaction device that can visualize each famous lines from the poems and enable audience to interact with them. So that the beauty and depth within Chinese literature can be directly shown through modern technology, creating a collision between modern and past. After all, though there may be barriers between different languages, arts has no boundaries. Through interactive devices, I hope that I can express the beauty I felt from Chinese poems to people coming from different culture backgrounds.
