- The Veldt: The idea I came up with this story is an artifact called the interactive screen. Users can draw anything they have in mind, and based on the thinking habit of the user, the screen will then turn the drawing “alive”. First the actual appearance of the modified “thing” will be displayed on the screen, and then it will become physically tangible. However, it cannot be controlled by the user any more from the beginning of its existence. I think the holographic projection and 3D printing are two existing technologies that are similar to my idea, but the things created are either not real or not autonomous. So when they actually come to real life and cannot be controlled by us humans, the unknown and unpredictability is something we all fear.
- The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas: The idea I had with this story is an idea from the story itself: floating light-sources. It is interactive because when you hold both your hands up, posing the shape of a cup, there will be floating light flying to your hands, which is somehow like the light carried by fireflies. And you can then put the light anywhere you want. To dim the light, you just have to cover you hands on the light-source for three seconds and it will disappear. And when I searched for similar existing technologies, I was surprised to find out that there actually is something very much alike to this idea os floating light-sources. In fact, it is a new type of LED named Luciola and it is a light-emitting particle which can move in mid-air, using wireless charging and remote control. And I think it will be a great invention if it becomes the reality someday, and I do believe that it will.
- The Plague: The idea I came up with this story is a museum with silicon based humans, who are voluntarily infected by “The Plague” and become a stone statue but are actually still alive. They just move very slowly because they perceive time very differently from us, and the interactive part is as follows. Vistivors touch them to get infected and gradually become petrified just like them, and then to get disinfected, they have to get their palms to palms. And the goal of this interactive project is to let visitors appreciate a different flow of time and a different form of creature. Unfortunately, when I searched online for the idea of silicon based creatures, the only answer I got is that they cannot exist, at least on Earth. And the nearest concept to the so called silicon based creature is the AI robots we create, whose “brains” are mainly made up of Silicon Dioxide. And when it comes to the problems of this idea, I think this virus is going to disturb our daily life if it is widely spread outside the museum. It will definitely make everyone’s life a total mess.
