FINAL PROJECT RESEARCH

At first, I considered interactive as the process of “input, analyze, output”, and which was the way how I finished my projects. However, after admiring others’ works, I realized that besides the definition of a fixed process, there should be more factors for a good interactive project. Here’s what I have researched and want to talk about: what are the factors that a good project should have.

To begin with, I would like to talk about what my classmates had done. During the midterm presentation, the project that impressed me the most was the fishing game. It made me feel that they move an online game into the real world, which was really funny. They also set some background music and build up a beautiful scene for the game, which made the people who were playing it feel more interactive. I thought that they were succeeded because of two aspects: one is the set for the interactive parts is interesting, and another is the details they paid attention to make the whole project more artistic.

According to the “Art, Interaction and Engagement” written by Ernest Edmonds, I personally summarize one point–that a successful interactive project should not only consists of interactive parts, but also leave some influences for people, because interactive arts is also a kind of art, and the artist should express something through their projects. The interactive arts are only a way for them to express, which means what the artists think about is the body of the project, but not just manage to achieve an interactive process.

I also searched the “interactive arts” on bilibili and found something interesting.

The first one is made in both Arduino and processing, which can interact with the visitor in both acts and animates. The creator said that she want to show the beauty of Chinese culture through the project. I considered it interesting because it was made simply but successfully expressed the artist’s thinkings and also influence the visitor.

The second project I found was a more interesting thing, rather than art. I had noticed this kind of project one year before, and when I was reading the research article, this thing just came into my mind. Here I add an example to show it more clearly. It was used to make your computer funnier. There will be a character sitting on your computer desktop and can interact with your mouse. When you move the mouse, it can follow you. Some characters are made in a more interesting way, such as it will climb asides your desktop’s edge and you can click on it to make it get down, and so on. I think this project can brighten people’s busy days by decorating something necessary for people to use and work, which is also meaningful to people.

Above all, I think to do my final project, I should first think about what I want to express, which may help me to use the things I have learnt more properly.
