Hundreds of physical therapists and many NYU students and alumni attended Dr. Anat Lubetzky and Dr. Jennifer Kelly’s (New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai) educational session at the APTA Combined Sections Meeting (Geriatrics Section). The 2-hour session was entitled: A Call for Physical Therapy Action on Hearing Loss, Balance Problems and Fall Risk. The session discussed the relationship between hearing loss and fall risk, the suggested underlying mechanisms, including research from Dr. Lubetzky’s lab, and how physical therapists can help improve balance and prevent falls in people with hearing loss.
