A Sound Assessment of Dynamic Balance
May 2022: Agnieszka Rogniska (Music Tech), Daphna Harel (Applied Stats) and Anat Lubetzky received the NYU Steinhardt Music and Audio Research Laboratory (MARL) 2022 Seed Award. The aims of this pilot study are:
Aim 1: Develop a new application to test individuals’ dynamic balance given different combinations of visuals and sounds, and with an increased level of physical and cognitive difficulty.
Aim 2: Compare the differences in dynamic balance performance given the hardware (headphones vs. loudspeakers) in a challenging protocol with diverse levels of visual, auditory and cognitive loads
Aim 3: Generate pilot data for future grant submissions that will test the feasibility of this system in older adults at an increased fall risk and allow for sample size calculations for an adequately powered study.
