Transitioning to Life After High School

What helps multilingual students with disabilities succeed after high school?

Here are key findings:

Welcome to the project home of our study of high school students and young adults who are English learners and are going to college and getting jobs. We are studying what leads to success and what gets in the way.

As we learn, we will share resources with individuals with disabilities, families, teachers, and other researchers. Explore our website to find the resources that best meet your needs or answer your questions.

Some of our questions are: How do families and schools help guide dually identified ELs with disabilities toward employment, postsecondary school, and community engagement? What are some of the in-school and postschool experiences of this population? How do these adolescents and young adults plan for the future, achieve their goals, and re-adjust as necessary?

This exploratory study seeks to fill a gap in our knowledge about the postschool outcomes of adolescent English learners (also referred to as emergent bilingual and multilingual learners) who also have a disability.

Our project is funded by the U.S. Department of Education, Institute for Education Sciences. Here’s the IES full project description.
