Plant Tracer is a potential app that allows students to quantify plant movement from time-lapse recordings using smartphones or tablets.
We propose this app as a new teaching tool to both enhance learning about plant movements as well as generate new knowledge on the nature of plant movement to characterize known and unknown genes involved in plant movement. The app will be designed to quantify gravitropic shoot reorientation and the physical parameters of circumnutation patterns in the Arabidopsis shoots, and will also be useful in other specified plant growth systems.
