Grace Yun

I’m Grace, a freshman studying Global Public Health and Nursing. I was born in Seoul, South Korea but moved to North Carolina (best state of all time) when I was three. I’m a huge Tar Heels and Carolina Panthers fan who loves sweet tea and gets homesick often.

Hopefully, I will be transferring into Gallatin next fall to combine my interests in public health and health policy, journalism, photography, and design. I grew up thinking I had a brain wired for science and math, but my heart has always belonged to literature and the arts.

Unlike the bulk of this class, I don’t really do great things with photography except post on Instagram (@graceyunn). I do play around with my film camera from time to time and would really love to learn more about photography, particularly portraiture.

I’m a sophomore in Gallatin studying journalism (potentially concentrating in the Middle East?) and foreign languages. It would be great to be a foreign correspondent some day, and a fashion blogger on the side. A girl can dream.

Photography has always been an important facet for my family. My father raised me on his cameras, until I eventually got my own. It was the best feeling in the world. I take photos for numerous other personal reasons, and all I’ll say is that I find the medium very cathartic.

Currently, I work at Bang Bang Tattoo in the Lower East Side. When I’m not working or going to school, I’m either browsing the Internet, taking pictures, or sewing clothes. Most likely just sleeping, because I’m exhausted from my schedule!

About Michelle Boukhover

Author in cafe with sunlight shining on face

I’m Michelle, a sophomore transitioning to Gallatin, looking to concentrate in marketing and graphic design. I’m currently a production intern at an experiential marketing agency, BMF Media. I was born and raised in New Jersey, the armpit of America, and I’m Russian by heritage so I believe in a multitude of superstitions, eat some weird food, and sound pretty angry when I speak to my parents. My mail goal in life is to have  a house on the water where I will take long walks on the beach with my 2 burnese mountain dogs. I always drive with the windows down, I’m a firm advocate for hydration, and my nickname is Juicy B.

Cristina Wedekind– Who We Are

My name is Cristina and I am a Junior at Gallatin. I’m currently studying the business of entertainment with a focus in the legal aspect of film production.  I’m originally from the Bay Area in California.
With this class, I’m especially interested in seeing how two major photo collectives had been able to shape the way a world perceives crucial and impacting events. I’m also interested gaining a better grasp on the society of the spectacle we live in today and how the influx of technology and media has affected human understanding and interaction.

Sarah Smith

I’m a freshman in Liberal Studies and I plan to transition into Gallatin after my sophomore year. I don’t have a concentration entirely nailed down, but I’m interested in a mixture of comedy writing, television production, and journalism. I currently work as a corps member with Jumpstart NYU, a program that places college students in low-income area preschools on the Lower East Side to help children develop language and literacy skills for kindergarten. I love every late night television show you could possibly name and I dream of working on any and all of them one day. I’m a firm believer that things happen for a reason and that laughter is the best medicine. Paul F. Tompkins is my hero, I don’t like dark chocolate, and I find great power in seeking the good in others. Like you, I’m just trying to see Hamilton.

Maya Wali Richardson

My name is Maya Wali Richardson, I’m a senior at Gallatin doing a very Gallatin-y interdisciplinary study of images. I transferred to NYU my junior year from Barnard College. Throughout college I have done a general academic and practical study of photography and film, and recently have focused in on the politics and ethics of documentary photography. I take images myself, which you can check out at mayawalirichardson.com. I shoot on 35mm and am very happy I’ve been able to develop and print my own work at NYU. I am from Los Angeles and also spent part of my childhood in Cape Cod.

Mia Jacobs

I’m currently a freshman in the Liberal Studies Core Program, but I’m planning to transfer to Gallatin. I’m not entirely sure what my concentration will be, but I’m thinking of incorporating marketing, journalism, and photography together. I currently intern at Milq, which is a social media site focusing on user-curated playlists in both music and culture. I’m always on Instagram, and I have an unhealthy obsession with tacos, Vampire Weekend, and Ray’s Candy Store.

Tristan Oliveira

My name is Tristan Oliveira, and I’m currently a sophomore at Gallatin concentrating in Photography, Video Production, Screenwriting, and Web/Graphic Design. I work on my own as a freelance photographer and videographer and also with a small production company that a few friends and I started together, we just finished a music video and have a documentary coming out within the next couple of months. I’m originally from Putnam County, New York, about an hour and a half upstate, so I spent a lot of time in the city as a kid.  As a “native” New Yorker, I’m great at complaining and overpaying for coffee, and I love the Yankees with a passion that can’t be explained even though I’d rather watch basketball. I spend most of my time taking photos and making videos because it’s what I love doing, and I hope one day to have a career in the film or photography industry.

I am a sophomore at Gallatin, concentrating in filmmaking and journalism. I am extremely interested in camera, and I love images. I am a photographer and DP, and I hope to make a career as a DP in the film industry. I am currently interning at the web video dept. for Popular Science, which is kind of weird for me as I am much more humanities-based, but thats what I ended up with and it is something different, so it is interesting to me. I am from Atlanta, I love the Falcons and the Hawks (although its sometimes hard to be a fan of them), and I love MF DOOM and The Strokes.

I’m a sophomore in Gallatin concentrating in Journalism, Fashion and Social Entrepreneurship. The goal is to work as a communications manager/ liaison for a company such as TOMS that has a social justice foundation. I am the Fashion Editor for NYU’s student newspaper: Washington Square News. I also intern for a start up called bSmart Guide that I’m completely obsessed with. When I’m not at the paper or interning I can most likely be found in Think Coffee. I love podcasts, TED talks, my family and stalking the Man Repeller blog.
