Adaptive Apparel Tutorials

Magnetic Button-Down Shirt, Velcro Shorts, and Velcro Shoes

In order to gain a better understanding of adaptive apparel, I attempted to create my own. For my final project in Dr. Anita Perr’s Application of Assistive Technologies Used by People with Disabilities course, I created a tutorial on making a magnetic button-down shirt. I then expanded this idea by going on to make adaptive shorts and shoes. As a novice sewer, I quickly learned that creating adaptive apparel takes time and patience. After watching YouTube tutorials on sewing techniques and becoming doubtful of my own abilities, it registered that the trials, whether good or bad, are part of the learning process. I also created these tutorials based on pre-existing resources I have seen, as noted in the credits of the videos, but made it more accessible by adding written instructions, audio descriptions, and transcripts for the audio descriptions.
