3. TRAVEL TO/IN MONTREAL
3.1 To and From the Airport
Pierre-Elliot Trudeau International Airport (YUL) is in Dorval, approximately 20 km west of Downtown.
By public transit: The 747 bus connects the airport to the Montréal public transit system – Société de transport de Montréal (STM). There are four fare-vending machines in the international arrivals area and there is an STM information counter located in the international arrival area. STM representatives are also located near the bus stop outside the airport.
The 747 runs express from YUL to Lionel Groulx metro station (~30 minutes) and continues locally to Downtown, terminating at Berri-UQAM metro station (~60 minutes). The 747 runs 24 hours a day to and from the airport, at least once and up to five times during peak hours. Full schedule available here (from YUL to Downtown) and here (from Lionel Groulx to YUL).
By taxi: Licensed taxis have a fixed, one-way rate of $41 between the airport and the city centre. Follow signs for the taxi line and take thee first one avaiable.
By rideshare: In addition to Uber and Lyft, Montréal-specific ride-sharing services such as Eva and Mozio transit to and from the airport. The latter two are run as worker cooperatives and offer competitive rates.
3.1 Getting around Montréal
The Société de transport de Montréal operates bus and metro (subway/underground) lines throughout the city. The metro system has 68 stations and four lines. Look for the Guy-Concordia metro station on the Green Line. It operates from 5:30 a.m. to 1 a.m. daily, with extended service from Saturday to Sunday morning. Bus service is also extensive, with over 200 lines and all-night operation. Maps of the bus and metro system can be found here.
The city is also extensively covered by bike-share stations. Bixi Montréal has 680 docking stations and over 9,000 bicycles in operation. These charge $1 to unlock a bicycle, and charge .15/minute for a regular bike and .30/minute for an electric bike. See station map here.
Car rental options are also extensive. In addition to North American companies like Avis and Enterprise, agencies specific to Canada and Québec such as Communauto and Globe offer competitive rates.
Commuter rail is operated by Exo Québec, which connects the city of Montréal to suburbs and outlying regions, linking 52 stations in the province.
Inter-provincial rail travel is possible through ViaRail, from Montréal’s Gare Centrale, with multiple daily departures to Québec City, Halifax, Toronto, and Ottawa, amongst other destinations.

Here’s a partial list of hotels within walking distance of our Orphans 2022 venue, the de Sève Cinema on Concordia University’s downtown campus, aka the Sir George Williams (SGW) campus. The de Sève Cinema is in the J.W. McConnell Building aka LB (Library Building), 1400 De Maisonneuve Ouest, Montréal / Tiohtià:ke.
Please note that the Montreal Formula 1 Grand Prix is on the same weekend as our gathering, so book accommodations early. Where possible, we recommend making sure your hotel booking is fully refundable in case of further COVID setbacks. Avoid using Chrome or Firefox.) Please use the coupon code ORPHAN.
