Artplace: RISD Museum
I am currently lived in Providence, RI, so last weekend I went to the nearest art space, RISD Museum. It is around 30 minutes driving from where I live. It is affiliated with the Rhode Island School of Design. It is opened to the public and free on certain days. The mission of the museum is to provide free access to digital images of public domain materials in the collection for any purpose. We want our collection, scholarship, and interpretive content to be accessed, distributed, and reused by everyone.” Inside, it has all kinds of artworks from all over the world, such as the African section, Asian section, European section…etc. Each section has paintings, sculptures, and handcrafts.
It was the first time I went there and I was surprised. The museum is really big and has so many artworks. There are not too many people inside, but you can see several people in every room. Everyone is enjoying the work quietly, only the footsteps can be heard. There are many stairs and passages in the museum, but there will be staff at each stairway. You can ask them for help anytime if having any questions. As I mentioned before, it includes many sections and my favorite one is the Ancient European section. I love the classical style very much, not only paintings but also clothes and architecture, such as things from the Renaissance and around the 18th century. They have a traditional, elegant beauty. The museum satisfied all my interests for sure. There are not only nearly a hundred classical oil paintings, but also a variety of gorgeous retro tableware, daily necessities, and even rooms with furniture inside.
In class, we also talked about museums and they have many similarities. The RISD Museum has artworks from all over the world and almost every period. The works of various famous artists are included here. Visiting the art museum is not only a visual and spiritual enjoyment but also an opportunity to learn from great artists. At the same time, artists can also get more understanding and attention.
This visit is a worthwhile experience. I have always hoped to be able to visit vintage European artworks, and this time my wish has been fulfilled. Through the experience of visiting the museum, I learned a lot about museums and art. I got more inspiration from the works of artists, such as the design of clothing and decorations, and the color, the composition of paintings. If I have a chance, I hope I can go again. The museum is huge, and there are so many places that need to pay more attention to. I also look forward to seeing new works next time I visit.
