Fall 2018 Meeting Schedule

Dear fellow Toastmasters,

Our Fall 2018 schedule has been finalized. Please refer to the list below.  In response to a survey sent to our members this past summer, we are providing you with a variety of meeting time and location options. You can also add the NYU Toastmasters Google calendar to your Google calendar. Just search for “NYU Toastmasters” in the field “Add a co-worker’s calendar” (or click on this link).

As a reminder, this is a closed group for the NYU Community only (staff, faculty, students, and alumni).  If you are an NYU community member but not a member of Toastmasters, you are welcome to attend our meetings as a guest and fill any of the roles except speaker.

At the bottom of this e-mail, you will find some images from our first meeting of the year on September 6th, which featured speeches from Queen Walker (selling a product: “Satin Sensation”) and Mary Lou Atkinson (leadership development: “How to Break the Habit of Breaking Habits”).

Next NYU Toastmasters Meeting on August 16th

Due to the summer schedule, there will be no meeting this Thursday, August 9th. Instead, we will reconvene on Thursday, August 16th for our regular evening meeting. The meeting will take place at 5:15pm at 105 E. 17th street, room 191. If you’d like to sign up for a role or give a speech, please let one of the officers know.

Summer book recommendations from our noon meeting on June 12th, 2018

Many thanks to those of you who came to the NYU Toastmasters meeting last week.  It was fun! Maria gave a great speech as part of the new Pathways program and we also talked about books– either our favorites or what we’re reading now. Below is the list in case you want inspiration for your summer reading.

District 46 Spring Conference: First Place goes to…

NYU Toastmasters. A special Thank You and Congratulations to our Own Ajay Chitharajan, who came in first place for the Speech Evaluation portion of the Contest. Ajay who was 5th to speak out of a total of eight contestants, met every portion of the judging criteria which included talking points such as analytical quality of a speech presenters strengths and weaknesses with clarity and logic. Ajay hit the mark on his performance improvement recommendations for the speech presenter,Raphael Victor, paying attention to his own technique and inspirational thoughts. The last portion, his summation of the entire speech was pivotal in the judges decision.

Our club President, Yolanda Rayside and VP Membership, Queen Walker, believe that his conclusion put him on the fast tract to first place. Ajay has compassion that can’t be ignored. We are proud to be witnesses and accountability partners in his Toastmasters Journey.

Toastmasters Meeting – Thursday, July 19th at 5:15pm

Hello fellow Toastmasters,

We just wanted to remind you that our next meeting will be held this Thursday, July 19th, 2018.  It will be at 5:15pm at 105 E. 17th St – Rm 191.

We still have some open roles for this meeting.  They are as follows: Toastmaster, Table Topics Master, Evaluator 1, Speaker 2, Evaluator 2, Meeting Evaluator, Timer, and Ah-counter/ Grammarian.  Please feel free to sign up for a role and bring your Competent Leadership book to get credit.

If you’d like to sign up for a future role, you can do so on our sign-in sheet or email Mary Lou Atkinson and let her know when and which position you would like to fill.

Open House: Toastmasters Meeting – Thursday, January 18th at 5:15pm

Hello Fellow Toastmasters and Esteemed Guests,

We just wanted to remind you that we have our next Open House meeting this Thursday, January 18th.  It will be held at 5:15pm located in 105 East 17th Street, Room 191.

We still have some roles open, Table Topics Master, Evaluator 1, Meeting Evaluator, Timer, Ah-counter/ Grammarian.  If you will be at the meeting, please feel free to sign up for a role and bring your Competent Leadership book to get credit!  Kattia Tan will be Toastmaster for this event and would love to know if you are interested in taking on a role with us.   We will be reaching out to all members separately and individually to see if you might be interested in volunteering for this event.

The theme for this Open House Meeting is: Optimism – Learned or Lived.
