BROOKLYN, New York— U.S. News & World Report today ranked New York University Polytechnic School of Engineering’s online graduate engineering No. 8 in the nation. This is the third successive year that U.S. News & World Report ranked the school among the top dozen graduate engineering programs.
NYU-ePoly, the school’s online learning unit, delivers 10 online graduate programs worldwide, including bioinformatics, electrical engineering, organizational behavior, and cybersecurity, which was named the nation’s best online program by the Sloan Consortium (since renamed the Online Learning Consortium) in 2011.

Sreenivasan, president and dean of the NYU Polytechnic School of Engineering. “By attracting a very competitive application pool and achieving an exceptional graduation rate, our online programs are serving a vital societal function of educating, outside the traditional pattern, much-needed and highly accomplished engineers. The recent implementation of active learning tools has enabled us to add more comprehensive programming to an already well-rounded online education program.”
The NYU School of Engineering piloted active learning—which engages students in interactive, high quality learning modules—for professional education classes developed with Scientific American. It subsequently began rolling out the pedagogical approach across all its online courses. Students get unlimited access to lectures, 24/7, from anywhere in the world. Then, during real-time webinars, students participate in live Q&A sessions. With their instructor and fellow students, they share ideas using video, screen-sharing, chat rooms, interactive polling, and built-in phone and VOIP lines.
High-quality video, audio, multimedia, and animation also engage students. NYU encourages weekly live sessions that prompt peer-to-peer learning for students and allow faculty to adapt to the needs of their students. It is an organic experience that grows and evolves to create the next generation of online learning courses.

They provide the same content, taught by the same noted faculty, as on campus.”
A recent survey of NYU-ePoly graduates by the school revealed 100 percent job placement within 6 months of graduation; for those already holding jobs, 40 percent reported they received a promotion or raise within the same period. Nearly 80 percent of those entering the online program graduated. By comparison, the National Council of Graduate Schools study found an average completion rate of 66 percent for science, technology, engineering and mathematics master’s degree programs.
For the 2015 Best Online Education Programs ranking, U.S. News reviewed statistical information including student engagement, graduation rates, class size, retention rates, best practices such as accreditation, collaborative coursework requirements, student support services, technology, student indebtedness, admissions, faculty credentials and training, and peer reputation.
