Our Team’s Artifact: Goggles
Introduction of goggles:
We took inspiration from Omleas. In Omleas, people put all of their emotions onto one person. For our artifact, we wanted to see what would happen if that changed and people were able to see other people’s emotions. So basically, once a person put on this pair of goggle, the technology inside it will help him to see people with color besides their body. Each color represents different emotions. Since the man can know the person’s feeling at an advanced. Their conversation can be more targeted and he will understand others better to help them solve problems. It will be really helpful when people meet some trouble but feel ashamed to say it aloud and ask for help directly, others can detect their inside feeling to take care and help them more. I think it relate to the established form of interaction I identified in the research since it interact with different people and help people learn emotions better to help others.
About the showcase:
In our showcase, I think our script is simple and clear. It says a single story that one day Henry pick up the goggle and figure out it is actually an emotional seeing eyewear. He wears the glass and enters the world of emotions. Then he talks to five people with different emotions. Because he has seen the color and know other’s emotions, his conversation with others become more effective and targeted. However, we still have a lot to improve. From professor’s comment, we find that we miss the situation when people feel negative feeling but don’t want others ton know. In the performance, when being asked about the feeling, everybody just tell the truth. But in reality, somebody may really don’t want others find out he is sad, so he keeps lying. When the words are opposite to the color goggle gives to Henry, what will he do and how can he help these people. By adding this situation, our performance will be more dramatic and complete. It can analyze the use of goggles better too.
Analysis and Assessment of a Performance from another group: The Mirror
This group’s artifact is called The Mirror. They clearly act the story we have read before. And they created a mirror that when they are happy they will see themselves in the mirror but if they are sad they will see a boy trapped in the dark room which is a very horrible scene. They then solve this problem and remain the mirror to remind villagers forever of this story. I think this mirror which can reflect people’s true emotion is very meaning that we can not always just see the positive part of lives. We should think more about the sadness of lives. I like this artifact and it meet the criteria of the assignment too. I think the project can be better if they can not be so relied on the origin story but make more creative idea which may can be used in the real word.
Teamwork:
Our team first come up with the idea of this goggle. In the progress of making this pair of goggle, one member in our groups is mainly in charge of the goggle, others are making the colorful board. After I cut and painted the cardboard, I helped the member to finish the goggle, like painting and help her to fix the model when she is trying to stick the wiring to it.
And for the performance part, except Henry, we all represent one typical color. My color is pink which refers to compassion. So I figure out the story of helping a homeless dog to express this feeling and make conversation with the main character, Henry. I think our team’s conversation is peaceful and effective. Because of the midterm, our whole team just meet at three times, but we respect everyone’s idea and quickly decide the best topic. We are unity together.
