Group project: The Suit

Our project

I think most of our project is successful. It meets our expected function that it is hard enough to protect the crow from the knife. Additionally, if we put the suit into the real situation of the story, it will be more useful because it’s easy to make and easy to wear. meanwhile, I think it relates to the established form of interaction identified in my research. Although its receiving part (the crow pushes the button) is quite simple, it makes an apparent and extended reaction(wearing the suit for the crow) to the button pushing. However, there were some problems in our project.  In the performance, we didn’t emphasize the interactive process of wearing the suit. We should separate the wearing process into different parts. The crow can call: ” Body!”, then we put the body part on him, and so on. In that way, it can reduce the chaos and pretend the members who are putting the suit on do not exist. Then the interactive part, which is pushing the button>>automatically suit on, can make sense.

Other group’s project

I like Hypersonic 2000 (by Group B) very much. I think it is closely related to the first story. They extracted the main idea of the nursery and developed it. Develop the reaction of the space from meeting mental demands to providing various help. Also, they express the interaction very well and their project is completely in conformity with my definition of interaction. The “door”  receives your demands and analyzes the stuff you need, then gives it to you, meaningful and effective. besides, their performance is very clever. they hid the performers behind the cardboard to make the “door” seem automatic. They also acted several rounds to show the comprehensiveness of the Hypersonic 2000.

Our making process

Our  script:

The narrator retells the story or the part where he gets slashed and infected and dies.

Tammy: “Our group chose to reenact the scene in “The Plague” where the Crow gets slashed —

Eva: One of the infected throws a knife and the Crow shoots, however, the knife strikes him in the arm and he gets infected.

  • The person throws the knife, crow shoots
  • Insert wind > Henry> Knife cuts Crow
  • Crow “dies” from being infected

Tammy: Now, how would the story have changed had the Crow been wearing a stronger suit? (time)

  • Crow press button
    • Takes out sunglasses from pocket
  • Everyone rushes to dress Crow (stands like Iron Man preparing for surgery)
    • Eva and Tammy: body, front and back
    • Nina and zora: tummy
    • Zora and Henry: legs
    • Eva and Tammy: arms
    • Nina and Tammy: shoulders
    • Eva and Henry: gloves
    • Henry: helmet and mask first
  • **Eva narrates different uses of armor: shoulders, chest plates front and back, stomach, shin guards, arms, helmet, materials used to create

Eva: Now that he’s ready, let’s watch the scene again.

Zora kidnaps Nina. Nina resists and screams…

Evan: Let her go!

Zora: No, why should I? You kill people every day.

Evan: It’s the right thing to do.

Zora: I don’t care.

  • A person throws the knife, and Crow shoots
  • Insert wind> Henry> Knife breaks!
  • Crow does not die
    • “Thank god I was wearing this suit! It protected me from the dangerous knife, I love this suit!”
About our team & My role.

Firstly, I am a member of the suit maker. I am in charge of covering the board with plastic bags and making the leg parts. Because the plastic bags can be entirely attached to the board, our makers had a difficult time dragging out the thread. Also, It took us a lot of time to expose the bandage and stick back the edge of the plastic bags. Besides, I helped my group to design the acting part. I tried to make every movement logical and be able to emphasize the features of the suit. I also played the part of the infected and being shot.

I love the working method of our team. We didn’t waste time in identifying a specific time to work on our project. When there are at least 3 members available, we will start working at the studio and wait until the other members have finished their own business to arrive and join the cooperation. I think our dynamic came from the first group meeting. We reached an agreement and made a rough plan on that day so that in the following week, every member who came could find work to do. We all put our effort into our project. Tammy and Nina gave out the performance outline and lines. Eva designed how to make the suit and all of us took part in the making work. And Evan, “the crow”, our model, put a lot of effort, into wearing a heavy jacket and trying on the suit again and again when we made it.

I enjoyed the communication atmosphere in our group. This is the first time for me to make such a integrated project with a group in such a short time. We all expressed our ideas and brainstormed together. Every one were active in the group working and I really appreciated that my group mates listened patiently when I had hard time in speaking out my thoughts in English.
